Xandra's in a terrible spot - enslaved for a thousand years to a high level demon, forced to see (and do) terrible things thanks to said demon, and now this: A group of neophytes showing up to rescue a prisoner. In the demon realm. Not the best impression to make on Xandria, she's all out of **** to give. She doesn't want to be caught up in this, but unfortunately this is the best chance she's had at escaping.Xandra isn't typical - she's snide, rude, and contemptuous of those she sees as 'idiots' or not living up to their potential. She's also not big on class status, which makes for a few bumps in the road as well.All in all, Xandra's a bit of a departure from the author's MCs, most aren't outright rude or arrogant (that's left for the villains usually). In theory she's not the MC... but the reality of her in the author's writing pretty much steals the show from everyone else.If you've liked the author's previous works, I believe this is set in the same world as Through the Fire, and the demons here are *demons*, not like the ones in Hell's Ascendant. It's an excellent read, and I hope folks enjoy it as much as I did. This is one of the few books that I have recent read that made me want to read without stopping mainly due to the characters feeling like they actually think and live. So many books recently have had very flat side characters that the book feels there is nothing more important than the MC. This book (and this author) has made a slew of very interesting characters with personal development, even side characters get fleshed out and feel important. One of the MC's Xandra is a great example of this her character is proabably my new favorite from this author. Her interactions with everyone around her had me giggling. But the back story had me actually care and want to see what happens next. The next installment cannot come soon enough.
