First, in what universe is the nickname "buddy" romantic or even a term of endearment? Sure, you might say that to a kid you're coaching in little league. You might say that from one guy friend or acquaintance to another. All I take from it is he dropped the f*** from the front of it. The fact that he continues to use this nickname when their relationship develops beyond that is slightly perplexing.Second, this whole alpha male thing in this story is pretty obnoxious. I don't mind a take charge kind of guy, but not one that is demeaning to the love interest. Suddenly, after the male lead appears on scene, the female lead can't run her own life. The only intelligent decisions are his. Does he know anything about children? Or females at all, besides one night stands? Has she not been raising her daughters from infancy? How did she suddenly lose the ability to make good decisions for her daughters and support them emotionally? Suddenly, he crashes in and she's lost any ability to think for herself. Bleah.Third, the last quarter of the book revisits the danger that was casually mentioned a couple of times earlier in the book. But it was so far off the deep end with mafia crap that it was hilarious. Did she watch a bunch of godfather-esque movies and go nuts? The dialogue... it was just too much.However, all that being said, if you can overlook those things or that's something you're into, maybe this is the book for you. It reads pretty quickly, and she can write a good sentence. Take this review for what it is. Just wasn't my thing. You know, I'm weird... I love to read books that have long passed the shiny new phase of a new release and all the major hype of why it's the best or worst book ever written, has died down. That being said, why I waited so long to read THIS one, out of order I might add, is beyond me. Maybe I was tired of KA? Dare I say it.. Due to the lack luster reads she was dishing out around this time this one came out. I don't know. She was one of my few fave authors, so when the lack luster reads were too many and not few, I had to take a little break I guess. But I never went far. Always returned to my favs by this author for numerous re-reads :)...Maybe this one found me at the perfect time and that's why I'm just now reading it. Doesn't matter why though, what matters is it found me, at $1.99 no less, and I'm so freaking glad it did!WOW! There was absolutely NOTHING lacking in this book. EVERYTHING was on point for me.Joe "Cal" Callahan and Violet are in and out of bedroom, goals... They had a rocky start, yes, but they more than made up for it..This book had everything a romance reader wants but without all the fluff and cheese factor to it.Full of Suspense, Action, Passion, Heart, Heartbreak, Love and Redemption.I love this book. I love this book. I LOVE this book!Can't say I want to read all the books in this series. But there are definitely 2 maybe 3, that I want to tackle next. Pretty sure it's gonna be Benny's story that I pick up next though. Then Mike's(He made me root for him in this one. Even though it's Joe. It was always gonna be Joe that my heart wanted the most here). Then I may (BIG MAYBE) go back to book 1 and see what Feb and Colt's tale is about.If you're a KA fan and have not read this book, pick it up.
